The festivities
continued in full force well after the stroke of midnight. It was
refreshing to be around everyone, and see them all so happy. It seemed
that this coming year would be full of surprises.
I was alone in the kitchen to drink a glass of water when Cameron came up behind me.
"Happy new year, Emily," came his sweet voice.
I turned to face him as a smile spread across my face. "Happy new year, Cameron." I closed the small gap between us and gave him a soft kiss.
Cameron's lips only left mine for a brief moment before he kissed me again, fiercely. His hands moved to my hips and he pulled me closer to his body.
The intensity surprised me, but I was more than happy to oblige him. It was only when his lips dragged to my neck that I questioned him.
"Cameron," I said through a giggle. "What are you doing?"
He mumbled my name against my skin and pushed my shirt up a few inches. His warm hands on my sides made me shiver and my cheeks redden.
"Come to me," Cameron whispered. His tone gave his desire away; he was nearly begging.
"Now? Everyone's here, we can't," I insisted. His warm hands were still on my skin and I had to admit to myself that I was more than a little tempted.
Cameron smirked and looked into my eyes. "It's our home. We can do anything we want," he reasoned.
He pulled me into another frenzied kiss and I felt myself redden even more.
"And I want you."
Cameron's words, delivered in a near-growl, made my decision final. I didn't need to say a word for him to understand.
"Upstairs," he said, his voice strong.
I didn't argue, but let him leave the kitchen first. I drank another glass of water and giggled to myself. 'He's crazy sometimes.'
I walked slowly down the hallway, only glancing quickly at the threshold of the sitting room; everyone was in the full swing of the party.
Once I'd reached the top of the stairs, I went to our bedroom and saw Cameron standing by the door. I only had time to close the door behind me before he was against me, holding my body against the wall with his.
"Cameron…" I murmured. His hands reached under my shirt and lifted it off of me before he tossed it to the ground.
His urgency was contagious. Only minutes passed before Cameron was shirtless as well. He nearly tore off my jeans and threw them aside before I pulled down his zipper.
I was on fire as I watched him remove both final layers of clothes on his body. I unhooked my bra and let it fall to the ground, leaving my panties the only fabric on me.
"God, Emily," Cameron breathed as he closed the gap between us with one step. His whole body was against mine as he caressed my neck with his lips and gripped my sides with warm hands.
"I want you, Cameron," I moaned, my hands in his hair.
In one swift move, Cameron picked me up and brought me to the bed. He placed me down on the blanket and crawled on top of me before removing my panties.
"I'll have you," he answered, his voice a little deeper than normal. "Hot… and wet…"
My body burned at his words and I arched my hips upward.
"Shaking around me," he continued. He shifted his hips and slid into me; I was more than ready for him and let out a soft moan.
Cameron grinned as he started to thrust. I wrapped my legs around him but this just spurred him on in his ferocity.
His hand moved to cover my mouth as I let out a loud whimper. He felt so good that I was almost lightheaded; the half dozen people downstairs were of no importance to me.
"You've got to stay quiet," he whispered.
I hummed against his hand and raised my hips to meet his. Cameron gasped quietly, but slowly moved his hand away from my mouth.
"Don't stop," I warned him as I felt the fire inside my body grow.
"I wouldn't dare," he replied without missing a beat.
Less than a minute passed before Cameron softly called my name. I let out a giggle, watching his eyes as I felt his release.
Cameron slowly eased himself out of me but kept his place over my body. "I said I'd have you, didn't I?" he smirked.
We kissed as I laced my fingers into his hair. Only when he pulled away from my lips and moved his mouth lower did I speak.
"I still want you," I confessed.
I felt him chuckle against me. His hand slid lower and was soon between my legs. I gasped, feeling myself tingle with electricity.
"You can have me," Cameron whispered to me. "Always."
I was surprised by the silence in the house when I woke up in the morning. I stretched and woke Cameron, who pulled me into his arms and held me close to him until we got out of bed to shower.
After having showered and gotten dressed, we went downstairs and quietly bypassed the sitting room. I glanced into the room and saw Dale curled up on the armchair, Willie sprawled on the sofa, and Steve laying on a blanket on the floor.
Lee was sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in front of him. “Good morning, you two,” he greeted us.
“Morning,” I answered. “Have you been up for long?”
“No, not very long,” he replied.
“Why is Steve sleeping on the floor?” Cameron asked Lee. “I’m sure he could have found a more comfortable place.”
Lee chuckled before answering. “Poor kid could barely stand by the time I’d given him a blanket. Willie may have given him one too many glasses of whiskey,” he explained. “Or two.”
“You guys got him so drunk he couldn’t stand?” I asked incredulously. “He’s barely legal, give his brain a chance to develop!”
“No,” Lee smirked. “If I didn’t have a chance to develop mine, he won’t either.”
We all laughed at that. I offered to toast some bread for us, and though he accepted, Lee seemed reserved.
“You’ll wake the beasts with the smell of food,” Cameron quipped.
“Hopefully the beasts will get in a cab and go home,” I joked.
Lee laughed quietly, but I knew he felt preoccupied.
“You okay?” I asked him.
Lee seemed to struggle for words. “This life,” he said slowly. “It’s loud, rowdy… A fast-paced way of living. I suppose I’m just feeling a little slow today.”
“It’s definitely not for the faint of heart,” I admitted. I sat beside Lee and gave him a weak smile. “Love, hate, affairs… injury. It all comes to light when you’re stuck in a bus together for six months.”
“Affairs,” Lee repeated quietly. “It’s quite a situation they’ve gotten themselves into.”
“Who?” I asked.
“Dale,” he replied in a whisper. “Sylvia.”
Cameron nearly choked on his tea at Lee’s words. I simply raised my eyebrows.
“You know?”
“Well, yes. I’ve seen him sneaking around with her. I kept it to myself to avoid a ruckus,” he explained. “How did you two find out?”
“She told me,” I said. “She felt guilty.”
“I bet she has. It’s been going on for nearly a year.”
“It’ll be a bomb going off when it’s found out,” I mumbled with a shake of my head.
“That it will.”
We lapsed into silence for a long moment, and let the conversation drift off.
By the time noon came around, we had fed the hungover masses strewn around my house and set them home in taxis.
I invited Lee and Steve to stay a while longer and join us for lunch, just as my sister came down the stairs.
“Good afternoon,” I said happily when she walked into the kitchen.
“Afternoon,” Liliane replied, though her gaze went to Lee. I saw him smile at her, barely noticeable, but very much there.
Only in the evening, once it was only Cameron, Liliane, and myself left in the house, did my sister ask to speak with me privately.
We went into the guest room she’d taken over for her stay and sat down on the bed. I stayed silent until Liliane spoke.
“What did it feel like?”
“What?” I asked softly.
“When you met Cameron,” she explained. “You told me you felt safe. What did it feel like?”
I sighed and shook my head. “It’s hard to describe,” I admitted. “Do you remember what it felt like when we went to live with Gran? How relieved we felt?”
“I’ll never forget it.”
“That’s almost what it was like,” I elaborated. “Except, there was also this feeling… of being understood. Like I could tell him the worst thing about me and it wouldn’t change a thing.”
Liliane nodded.
“What makes you ask?”
“I slept with Lee last night.”
Her voice was quiet and I couldn’t help but chuckle.
“How scandalous of you,” I joked.
“We didn’t,” she insisted. “We just talked. He held me for a long time, until I fell asleep.”
I met my sister’s gaze and saw that she’d begun to cry. “Are you alright?”
“I’ve never experienced this, Emily,” she confessed to me. “He asked me to go out to dinner with him. I said I would, but…”
“Do you like him?”
She nodded. “I really do.”
“He wouldn’t hurt you. I know that,” I said as reassurance.
“I can’t have feelings for him, Emily.” Her voice was a whisper, but adamant in its statement.
“Why not?”
“I have a life back home. I have friends, a good job, a future…” she trailed off.
I took her hand in mine and smiled at her. “Let yourself be happy, Lil. You’re allowed to be happy.”
I was alone in the kitchen to drink a glass of water when Cameron came up behind me.
"Happy new year, Emily," came his sweet voice.
I turned to face him as a smile spread across my face. "Happy new year, Cameron." I closed the small gap between us and gave him a soft kiss.
