[Cameron’s perspective] I got out of bed carefully, to not wake Emily. Her breathing was deep and regular, but she had slept fitfully all night and woken often, twice waking me as she tossed and turned. Not that I minded; it was gratifying that I pull her back to sleep with the comfort of my embrace. I put the slippers on my feet, grateful for the warmth, and quickly brushed my hair. It was only beginning to be light outside but the alarm clock assured me it was past seven o’clock, and I desperately needed to piss. I glanced back towards Emily’s sleeping figure once more, then closed the bedroom door behind me. I didn’t notice the sounds coming from the kitchen until I came out of the bathroom.
